Covellite designer gem 10/13/2016 01 - 49 x 22 x 5 mm - 81 carats - This material comes from Butte Montana. This large, high grade cabochon has gorgeous clear azure blue metallic Covellite beautiful with flecks of gold pyrite. This is the kind of high grade covellite everyone wants and is rather hard to get. If you touch this stone anywhere on the blue areas the oils in your hand can make the rich blue fire turn to a beautiful magenta color as seen in the last picture and a little in the video below. This stunning designer shield cabochon has a low rounded dome, girdled sides and a flat beveled back all with mirror like luster so reflective it's difficult to get pictures. There are a few minor surface voids that do not detract from this outstanding and rare gem. As far as covellite goes, this stone has very minimal imperfections. The pictures and video show the stone fairly well but the stone is much better in person, in hand.
